Criminal Law

When You are Charged with a Crime, You Do not Need to Go through it Alone

Being accused of a crime changes your life for the worse, regardless of actual guilt. Not only is it stressful to deal with the process of a criminal prosecution, such as having to attend court dates and facing the prospect of incarceration and/or a hefty fine, but merely being prosecuted can negatively impact your employment, have family law implications, and possibly more.

You need a criminal defense lawyer on your side who understands your legal rights and the importance of mitigating the negative consequences of a prosecution. Your lawyer also needs to understand the strengths and weaknesses of the prosecution’s case, how to conduct investigations, and how to negotiate with prosecutors (whether it be getting a case dismissed or getting a better plea offer).

As a former public defender, I have the experience and skills you need for an effective defense. Whether it is a felony or misdemeanor, I can help.

Navigating the Criminal Process

Simply navigating through the criminal process can be daunting and intimidating. Whether it is scheduling court dates, preparing and filing motions, participating in hearings, negotiating with the prosecutor, or obtaining evidence, you need an attorney who is not only competent in these matters, but who will give you the information you need to be informed every step of the way.

I believe the more informed my clients are, the more comfortable they feel going through the legal process, which can ultimately lead to a more favorable outcome.

Preparing for Trial

While the vast majority of criminal cases are settled by an agreement between the prosecutor and defense, the most effective way to get the best results is to prepare for each case as if it were going to trial. Even if the possibility of a particular criminal case going to trial seems remote, by conducting investigations and preparing as though the case were going to the trial, we will know the strengths and weaknesses of the State’s case. By exposing any weaknesses early on, you are put in a much better position to negotiate the most favorable results possible and, if negotiations with the prosecutor break down, you will be in the best possible position to take the case to trial.

I understand that when you are facing prosecution, your life is in chaos. I am flexible and will work around your schedule.
